The World Health Organization (WHO 1946) defines “Health” as
‘a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the
absence of disease or infirmity’. Health Education intends to promote actions
focused on encouraging a way of thinking, feeling and behaving that maximize
the ability to live in equilibrium with the physical, biological and
socio-cultural environment.
Our teaching field takes place in a very special context for
humans: the stages of puberty and adolescence. More and more young people
suffer from structural problems as a result of rapid growth and the sedentary
lifestyle affecting industrial societies. The drug and alcohol abuse and
diseases related to feeding problems are present in all our schools and affect
our students directly.
The development of this project tries to mitigate the
adverse effects of these habits offering participants ways to improve their
lifestyle and prevent future pathologies; educate our students in the importance
of developing through a balanced way, both at a
physical and psychological level; and give them the tools to deal with
situations that may lead to a physical or psychophysical imbalance.
Sports and nutrition are essential for the proper
maintenance and development of the capabilities of an individual. It is,
therefore, an indicator of health, both individually and collectively.
Socioeconomic, cultural and geographical factors determine
to a greater extent, differences in the nutritional status of a community. To
have a wide view of how it works in different countries and see the pros and
cons of each national diet will help to get a critical approach to our own
diet.
